When I first wondered if aging might be optional, I began noticing how strongly we are defined by age in Western culture.
Pick up any newspaper or magazine and you’ll see that a person’s age is the second most common feature used to identify them.
As in, “Judy Smith, age 56…”
Or “an unidentified 24-year-old man…”
The label of age is so strongly tied to our sense of ourselves that I decided, just for fun, to mess with mine.
On my birthday two years ago I decided that rather than add a year to my age, I’d subtract one.
I loved that every time I would think of how old I was, it delighted me to notice how much better – and more accurate – it felt to think of myself at my chosen age. I ‘resonated’ with that age. I knew what its like to BE that age and I liked it better.
What’s been interesting is to learn how to talk about my age with other people.
Its amazing how important it can be for some people to tie you tightly to the ‘accurate’ number.
But you, like me, may be fully aware that who you really are is timeless and eternal. So why apply a limiting number to yourself when you are unlimited? Right?
If you’re interested in unhooking yourself from inevitable aging, you can join me right now by making a decision.
Decide – just decide – you are going to buck the trends, choose how you want to label yourself age-wise and see what its like to stand in that choice.
You might do this by becoming a year younger on your next birthday.
Or you might just decide to refrain from applying a number to yourself at all.
The truth for me now is that I actually forget what my ‘real’ age should be. I’d have to do some math to figure that out.
In my Youthening Program, I’ll be sharing practical tips and strategies on exactly how to turn back your age, including what to say to those who don’t understand, object to or ridicule your choice to be a particular age or to be ageless.
But why wait when you can start today?
Leave a comment if you want to let me know you’ve decided to stop aging now too.
I’d be happy to have you join me. :-)

So right about the label of an age….Up until recently, I used to have to look up to the left and figure out how old I was when someone asked. Not so much now, but maybe I can forget again.
Funny thing though..since Wendy opened this topic and I’ve turned my thoughts to youthening again, I really feel like I look a few years younger than last week.
I am so ready to youthen, or stop aging, right now! I feel so much younger than the number – I think younger, I speak younger, I move younger – when I look in the mirror, I wonder who that is – and I would love the outer self to reflect the inner one moreso than it does now!
I hear you LInda – let’s see what we can do about that, huh?
Lovely to join with other aspects of Self, of like mind and see these expansive reflections.
Since going TV-less, Newspaper-less, Magazine/Media-less and seeing the movie, Inception, everything has become easier, simpler, calmer, happier. Nothing exists unless I am giving it my attention. No societal constructs; no wars; no crisis; no lack/shortage; no conflict…When we ponder the implications and utter beauty and simplicity of this, it’s really quite amazing and satisfying.
Thanks for sharing. I’m looking forward to this ☺
